Willow Park City Council on Tuesday accepted a resignation from councilman Tyler VanSant, who has served in Place 2 since 2020.
The council member was recalled to active duty in the United States Air Force for three years, and in compliance with the Air Force code, could no longer “hold or exercise the functions of civil office.”
During a brief proclamation, Mayor Doyle Moss described VanSant as a “valued member of council” and gave him an award of appreciation.
“For your service to the city of Willow Park and commitment to our country, we thank you,” Moss said as the crowd stood up and applauded him.
VanSant, who has served on the council for about a year half, said he’s proud to have served the council for the last couple years.
“I think we’re really squared away with where we are today versus where we were when I started 18 months ago,” VanSant said. “As you can see, the growth, it’s challenging to keep up with, but this city has really done a great job at that.”
During Tuesday’s meeting, the council unanimously voted to appoint Chawn Gilliland to fill the vacancy, where he immediately stepped in for VanSant.
The city council additionally voted to approve several agreements and contracts for various projects around the city, including:
An agreement with Jacob & Martin to provide professional services to analyze and study water and waste water impact fees
A contract for mowing and lawn maintenance services for 2022-24
The city also canceled the May general election after council members place 3, 4, and 5 for all uncontested.
