Friends of the Aledo Public Library

“The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”

Albert Einstein

Anyone driving around the traffic loop in Aledo cannot fail to notice the construction of the new City Hall complex at the junction of Maverick St. and Old Annetta Road. Included in this complex will be the Aledo Public Library, formerly known as the East Parker County Library, and currently located at 201 FM 1187. As plans for the transition to the new building are being finalized, the Friends of the Aledo Public Library are also regrouping and invite the community to join them by becoming members.

The purpose of the Friends of the Aledo Public Library, a non-profit 501©3 volunteer organization, is to support the library by advocating for library needs, promoting the services and programs offered by the library, fundraising to provide money for those programs and services not covered in the public budget, as well as encouraging community involvement with the library. The Friends play a crucial role in strengthening the library.

While the City of Aledo covers operational costs for the library, Parker County also provides some funding, and these help cover the basic library needs. Any money raised by the Friends is “icing on the cake,” and can be used for additional supplies, prizes for the Summer Reading Program or whatever else may be on the library’s wish list.  The Friends of Aledo Public Library recognize that each person in our community is unique with different needs and strives to help the library provide programs and materials to help everyone with what they need to succeed. The library offers an amazing array of programs for all age groups and is free to residents of Parker County.

The Friends of the Aledo Public Library meet quarterly to discuss library needs and plan events in support of the library.  The Annual General Meeting will be in September, at which time officers will be elected and future meeting dates will be set.
