Finley honored by THSCA

Second accolade in a week

The postseason accolades keep coming in for Aledo junior wide receiver Kaydon Finley. For a second straight week he was honored by one of the state’s elite organizations.

Finley was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Class 5A Super Elite Team. It comes on the heels of him being named all-state by the Padilla Poll.

The Super Elite Team is exactly what the name says. A player must have excelled as an elite member in their respective sport.

They must also be of good moral character and have been a member of the team in good standing at the time of the nomination. The award is for varsity sports only.

“That is a great honor to be selected for the THSCA for their Super Elite Team. An individual has to meet certain criteria and then a committee chooses who will be on the team,” Bearcats head coach Robby Jones said. “One of the big differences between this team and other all-state teams is the committee reviews each nominees highlight videos.

“Kaydon excelled at a truly elite level last fall and we expect him to help lead next year’s team back to another state championship.”

Finley caught 81 passes for 1,429 yards, an average of 17.6 yards per catch. His long catch was for 92 yards.

He was targeted 125 times in 14 games and only had four drops. Overall, Finley enjoyed his best season to date.

Finley helped the Bearcats to a 12-2 record and a berth in the Class 5A Division I state quarterfinals. He helped them to back-to-back state championships in his freshman and sophomore seasons and has been a starter all three of his high school campaigns.

In his time on the varsity the Bearcats have posted a record of 42-4, including 16-0 in 2023. They won 30 straight games in that span.
