Eagles top Reicher for first win

Posted

The Trinity Christian Academy Eagles captured their first victory under new head coach Brian Marmion on Friday, Sept. 2, winning at Waco Reicher Catholic 21-13.

Ironically, all of the scoring was done in the third quarter.

Reicher (1-2) struck first, returning a fumble for a touchdown, but the Cougars missed the extra point. Trinity (1-1) took the lead, 7-6, on an Evan Chrane 42-yard run, followed by Riley McCracken’s first of three true extra-point kicks.

Then, after Reicher regained the lead on a 25-yard run, Trinity regained it for good on Jake Wallis’ 3-yard run and another McCracken kick. Caleb Nelson capped the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown for Trinity and again McCracken was good on the kick.

Nelson led the Eagles with 39 yards on six carries, while Chrane gained 35 on 13 totes. Chrane was also 7-for-14 passing for 48 yards, with Matthew Sykes being the leading receiver with two catches for 19 yards. Nathan Williams hauled in a 14-yard reception.

Defensively, Nelson posted 15 tackles, including one for a loss, for the Eagles, while Wallis had 11. Cameron Hobbs registered eight with one for a loss and Jackson Sykes’ seven tackles included a pair for a loss.

Braxton Smith had an interception and Hobbs recovered a fumble.

Along with being perfect on extra points, McCracken punted eight times for a 38-yard average with a long punt of 58 yards.

The Eagles will play their next game at home, their first ever in their new stadium when they host Dallas Christian Home Educators, based in Cedar Hill. DasCHE is 2-0 with wins over the Conroe Northside Lions Sports Association (40-36) and CenTex Sports Association (53-0). Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
