Eagles fall short in Tyler

After defeating a visiting team from Tyler (T.K. Gorman) the previous week in their homecoming, the Trinity Christian Academy Eagles made the trek down Interstate 20 this past Friday to the Rose City to face All Saints.

In a back-and-forth contest, the Eagles came up short, 26-24. TCA attempted a 49-yard game-winning field goal with four seconds left that came up short.

"This was a great game for both teams that went back and forth until the end. Our team showed resilience and heart on both sides of the ball," Eagles coach Cody McKenzie said. "We saw great individual efforts and moments of teamwork that remind us we’re on the right path. These are the building blocks we’ll continue to work on as we push forward."

Leading TCA (1-4) on offense were quarterback Canaan Kaznowski, who was 11-of-25 for 170 yards passing while rushing eight times for 40 yards, along with Owen Coates, who rushed a dozen times for 44 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 58 yards.

Also for the Eagles offense, Pearson Kuykendall rushed 11 times for 55 yards with a 16-yard catch, and Ezra Burk and Hank Nash each caught three passes for 64 yards and 34 yards, respectively.

On defense, Matthew Nestor led with eight tackles. Maxwell Johnson, Rhyder Dawson and Kuykendall each had six tackles, and Coates had five tackles, including two for a loss with a sack.

Also, Micah Harless posted five tackles and Dane Southworth had an interception.

The Eagles wrap up pre-district play at home Friday, Oct. 4 against Arlington Newman International, a 7 p.m.. The Warriors (1-3-1) are coming off a 40-34 home loss to Dallas Shelton.

TCA will begin play in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division III District 1 at Arlington Pantego Christian (4-0).
