Eagles drop opener at home

Youth shines on field

Posted

While the Willow Park Trinity Christian Eagles fell 27-13 to Fort Worth Temple Christian at home on Thursday, Aug. 24, there was reason for optimism.

Most notably by the performances of numerous young players in the contest.

Sophomore Braxton Smith led the Eagles in rushing with 20 carries for 92 yards, including a touchdown. Senior Matthew Sykes also rushed for 53 yards and a TD on six carries.

On defense, freshman Asher Strait topped Trinity with 13 tackles and sophomore Nathan Bryson added eight. Sykes and fellow senior Luke Sims each posted six tackles.

Smith and freshman Jake Anderson each had a fumble recovery, both of which were caused by junior Cameron Hobbs.

The Eagles are home again on Friday, Sept. 1 when they host Waco Reicher Catholic (0-1). The Cougars are coming off a 63-6 loss at Milano.
