Eagles clip Bearcats 70-63 in hardwood matchup

Aledo falls in home contest to Brock

After edging Eagle Mountain Saginaw 52-51 in their previous outing, the Aledo Bearcats boys basketball team returned to its home court Tuesday night for more pre-district basketball action. In this contest, the Bearcats hosted the Class 4A Brock Eagles. Aledo nosed in front 36-35 at halftime, but Brock was able to finish the job late with a 70-63 win, fueled by an 11-point third-quarter differential, where they outscored Aledo 21-10.

The Bearcats (6-3) displayed consistent offense with 18 points in each of the first and second frames, led by senior guard Enrique Pacheco, who scored 15 of his 25 team-high points in the first half. Despite that, Brock came out firing in the third quarter led by senior guard Jacoby Boxell, who netted all but two of Brock’s field goals in the third period. Boxell had 10 points himself in the frame.

Trailing by 10 entering the fourth quarter, Pacheco and Crew Bates did their best to lead a comeback charge as they combined for 16 of the team’s 19 fourth-quarter points, but the Eagles were able to cash in on key buckets down the stretch to hold Aledo off.

Along with Pacheco’s team-high 25 points, Caden Cunningham poured in 15 points while forward Townes Van Huysen added 10 points. Dylan Pipkins chipped in with six points while Boxell led Brock with a game-high 28 points.

The Bearcats will take the court again Thursday through Saturday in the Abilene Key City Classic Tournament.
