Northwest holds off Bearcats, Ladycats

Posted

With District 5-5A action officially underway, the Aledo varsity soccer teams made the trek up to Justin on Tuesday, Jan. 30, to share the pitch with the Northwest Texans.

In the girls’ match, the Ladycats (3-5-2 overall, 0-1-1 in district) tied Northwest 4-4 at the end of regulation, but lost the shootout, five goals to four.

In the nightcap, the Texans handed Aledo (9-1-3 overall, 0-1-1 in district) their first loss of the season in a 3-0 shutout.

Freshman midfielder Allyson Weimer has made quite the impact on the Ladycat club already this season. In just her second district game of her young career, she scored a pair of goals to lead the offensive charge for Aledo in the match. She currently leads the Ladycats in scoring with eight goals on the year.

Emery Thompson, who became the Ladycats’ primary scoring threat late last season, continues to be the definition of consistency. Her goal on Tuesday night gives her five so far this season.

Hailey Vandiver also scored a goal in the match for Aledo.

As the game went to the shootout, the Lady Texans were able to get a single stop that made the difference as the hometown team prevailed.

Aledo will continue their district schedule on Friday, Feb. 2, when Saginaw comes to town. The Ladycats will play first, with their match set to start at 5:30 p.m. The Bearcats will close out the evening with a match against the Rough Riders at 7:30 p.m.
