District announces gate closure schedule

Posted

The Aledo ISD has notified parents and guardians in the school district that the parking lot gates around Aledo High School, the Aledo Learning Center, Daniel Ninth Grade Campus, and Coder Elementary School will be locked overnight and some during the school day on a set schedule.

The gates were installed after the school district received a security grant in 2020.

In the communication from Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn and AISD Police Chief Fred Collie, the communication noted that the new gate closure schedule will “allow for better control of vehicle traffic in and out of this large district property area” and act as “a deterrent for people trying to enter our facilities when they’re closed.”

The district has been experiencing some vandalism and trash on facilities.

“Almost daily, our maintenance and cleaning crews start their mornings cleaning beer cans and bottles, food containers, and other trash from the far corners of the main lot between our North Transportation center and Daniel Ninth Grade Campus,” Bohn and Collie said. “As people access this lot overnight, they regularly destroy or damage property and drive recklessly through the lots which have resulted in noise complaints from nearby neighbors.”

In addition, Bohn and Collie said the closures during the day will discourage students from leaving the campus during the school day.

All gates will be locked overnight, and all gates will be unlocked in the afternoons and evenings from 2:30-9 p.m.

All gates will be closed at 9 p.m. Gate A, behind the AISD Administration Building near the entrance to the ag barn, and Gate B, which provides access to the area between the high school and Bearcat Stadium, will be unlocked from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each school day. The remaining gates will open at 8 a.m.

Gates will also be open to accommodate officially scheduled events in the school district.
