As the Aledo wrestling program continues to grow, so does the success. The program qualified eight wrestlers for regional competition from this past weekend's District 4-5A Tournament in Vernon.

The contingent was led by Brice Bohn's runner-up finish in the boys 113-pound division and Kyra Wright, second in the girls 126 category. Bohn was an alternate to state last season.

The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for the Region I Tournament, which will be held at West Texas A&M University in Canyon Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10. From there, the top four finishers in each weight class will move on to state in Cypress Feb. 16-17.

As a team, the Bearcats finished fifth and the Ladycats were sixth.

Also qualifying for the Ladycats are Baillie Sessom, third in 185; Avery Kernan, fourth in 107; and Rilei Blankenship, fourth in 132.

Joining Bohn at regionals for the Bearcats will be Bryce Vonasek, third in 215; Kyle Scharlow, fourth in 150; and Samuel Belyeu, fourth in 165.

Regional alternates for the Bearcats after fifth-place finishes are Oliver Tatro, 126; Brady Powell, 190; and Cooper Cyphers, 285. Noah Chasteen placed sixth in 120.

While the Ladycats had no regional alternates, placing sixth in their respective weight classes were Lillian Carruthers, 100; Arianne Mathias, 138; and Margaret Schabel, 145.

"We faced a tough district this year and my kids battled hard. The biggest take away I have is that every wrestler improved from where they finished last year in district," coach Austin Stockon said. "We head to this week to face one of the hardest regions in the state, but I am excited to see my kids rise to the challenge."
