A short reception held prior to the Aledo City Council meeting May 7 honored outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Shawna Ford and welcomed Ben Clark, Matt Poston, and Melanie Allen, giving the community a chance to share their thanks to each for serving.

Shortly after, when the meeting was called to order, Aledo Mayor Shane Davis recognized Ford for her time on council, noting the many accomplishments the city has seen while she served.

“[My time on council is] near and dear to my heart and it has been an honor,” Ford said. “I’m grateful to have had this opportunity and I know I am leaving the city in good hands.”

Member Summer Jones said the way Ford was always ready to step up has inspired her and that she will miss their conversations.

“We have so much in common and our conversations have been incredible,” she said, adding that in this age of texting and emailing, it’s nice to pick up the phone and connect with people.

Ford was then given gifts of appreciation by City Manager Candice Edmondson and posed for pictures with family and council members.

Oaths of office were then administered to Clark, Poston and Allen, officially minting them for their terms on council. Each took pictures with family and friends in attendance and then got to the business at hand.

During the meeting, the council approved the first reading of an economic development agreement with Your Personal Chef. In December, city staff received an Infrastructure Rebate Program application requesting a rebate equal to 50 percent of new sales tax generated over a five-year period. The Aledo Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) reviewed the request, as did staff, and approved the application.

The council also approved an amendment to the City of Aledo Unified Development Code (UDC) by establishing the Manufactured Home (MH) zoning district as a new zoning district, including applicable use regulations, design standards, development standards, and corresponding references to the new district throughout the UDC. This was done to comply with Texas Senate Bill 785, proposed and adopted during the 2025-2026 legislative session, which goes into effect on September 1.

The council meets next on May 21.
