City narrows down manager search

The City of Aledo has released the names of four finalists for the position of city manager.

The position has been filled the past few months by Mark McDaniel, who came of retirement to fill in after the resignation of former City Manage Noah Simon.

 

Candice Edmondson

Candice Edmondson has served as City Manager for the City of Richland Hills since September 2018, following her tenure as Assistant City Manager. Her previous municipal experience includes roles with the City of Southlake as Deputy Director of Community Services and Assistant to the Director of Community Services, as well as serving as a Management Assistant for the City of Hurst. Edmondson holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. She is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the International City/County Management Association, Texas City Management Association, North Texas City Management Association, National Recreation and Park Association, and Texas Recreation and Park Society.

 

Michael Esparza

Michael Esparza has served as City Manager for the City of Alice since March 2018. Prior to his appointment, he served in elected office for 11 years as a City Council Member, including four years as Mayor Pro Tem. Before entering the public sector, Esparza spent over 18 years in the private sector, working in insurance, real estate, and healthcare administration. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Business, both from Concordia University. Esparza is actively involved in the International City/County Management Association, where he is pursuing ICMA-Credentialed Manager status, and is also a member of the Texas City Management Association.

 

Daniel Ortiz-Hernandez

Daniel Ortiz-Hernandez has served as Assistant City Manager for the City of Ennis since January 2024. His local government experience spans multiple states, including Arizona, Nebraska, lowa, and California. He previously served as City Administrator for Kimball, Nebraska for three years, City Manager for the City of Wasco, California for over two years, and City Manager with the City of Webster City, lowa for more than four years. Ortiz-Hernandez earned a Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Northridge. His professional affiliations include the International City/County Management Association where he holds the ICMA-CM credential, Local Government Hispanic Network (LGHN), Government Finance Officers Association, American Public Works Association, Texas City Management Association, and North Texas City Management Association.

 

Eric Oscarson

Eric Oscarson currently serves as Deputy City Manager for the City of Burleson, a role he assumed in September 2023 after serving as Public Works Director. He brings extensive experience in public works across Illinois, Arizona, and Texas. Oscarson has held positions with the Village of Deerfield, IL as Street Foreman and Assistant to the Director of Public Works; Assistant Director of Public Services and Engineering for Hinsdale, IL; Director of Public Works for Navajo County, AZ and Schiller Park, IL; and Assistant Director of Public Works in Sugar Land, TX. He earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Columbia College. Oscarson is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the International Society of Arboriculture, American Public Works Association, American Water Works Association, and the International City/County Management Association.
