Carol Nagie Steer, 61, of Aledo, passed away on December 18, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.
Carol was born on May 25, 1963, to Victor and Francis Nagie in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Her family moved around the United States throughout her childhood, ultimately landing in Seguin, Texas, for Carol’s middle school and high school years. She went on to graduate from Southwest Texas University in San Marcos with a degree in Communications and moved to Arlington where she met a young aspiring accountant — Fred Steer.
The two met on a blind date on January 19, 1991. Carol always talked about how much of a gentleman Fred was on that first date and how, on the third date when Fred said he wanted his wife to stay home with the kids, she knew he would be her husband. All she had wanted her entire life was to be a stay at home mom and take care of her children.
The two married shortly after and moved to Fort Worth. Two years later they welcomed their first child, Abby. Thirteen months later, their second child, Zac, was born.
It was in those early parenting days when Carol’s faith really began to blossom. Turns out raising two hellions is one of the fastest ways to turn someone’s heart to Christ.
Attending church became a regular occurrence. Carol started volunteering in the children’s ministry with Fred and they began to take their first steps truly walking with Christ.
That faith continued to grow and grow, shaping her life and those around her.
As a mother, she poured into her kids. She viewed them as her life’s work. It’s easy to get a lot wrong with parenting, but it’s also easy to get a lot right if you just love your kids unconditionally, and she did that exceptionally well.
As a friend, she was intentional, loving, and generous. She mentored young moms and married couples and regularly opened the family’s home to host baby showers, wedding showers, and middle school and high school ministries.
Fred and Carol were married for 32 years and as a wife, she was a best friend and confidant. She loved unconditionally and was a powerful spiritual influence. Her infectious laughter made life so fun.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Fred Steer; daughter, Abby Evans and husband, Rob Evans; son, Zac Steer; parents, Victor and Frances Nagie; sister, Elle Martin-Nagie and wife, Deanna Martin-Nagie; sister, Karen Schaeffer and husband, Max Schaeffer.
A Celebration of Life was held on December 30, 2024, at Christ Chapel Bible Church West Campus.
