Bearcats second, Ladycats fifth at Burleson

With four runners in the top 20, the Aledo Bearcats finished second in the Burleson Elk Run XXII on Sept. 2. Meanwhile, the Ladycats had two runners in the top 10 and finished fifth overall as a team.

The Bearcats missed the top spot by just three points behind Fort Worth Arlington Heights. The junior varsity boys did take first in their division.

“Although it was a wet, sloppy day, it was a great day for our runners!” exclaimed head coach Mike Pinkerton. “Everyone ran extremely well given the conditions. Very proud of how they kept their composure in the rain and the mud.”

Molly Garrison had the highest placement overall among varsity runners, taking third among the girls with a time of 19 minutes, 27.64 seconds over the 5K course. Jack Fink was the top boy, clocking a 16:13.41 over the same distance.

Also for the Bearcats varsity, Vincent Luffey was eighth, 16:48.42; Sam Haught was 17th in 17:09; and Dominick Berrera placed 20th in 17:19.16. Rounding out the Aledo varsity boys was Henry Zedler, 23rd, 17:23.78; Luke Schabel, 29th, 17:50.40; and Anderson Smith, 40th, 18:02.69.

Sophia Brandenburg’s time of 20:04.44 placed her ninth among varsity girls. Also for the Ladycats, Aubrey Connelly was 56th in 22:55.48; Caroline Browning, 63rd, 23:14.79; and Sadie Williams, 71st, 23:21.02.

The JV boys were paced by Daniel Stephens’ runner-up time of 18:07.72 and James’ Price’s third-place clocking of 18:43.17. Lincoln Tuin also posted a top-five finish, placing fifth in 19:00.76.

The JV Bearcats also saw Bo Merrill finish 16th, 19:32.73; Chad Thomas, 19th, 19:41.21; Isaac Price,55th, 20:42.20; Caden West, 74th, 21:11.36; Christian Flores, 133rd, 23:12.71; Alex Gasper, 145th, 23:36.96; and Ian Robbins, 194th, 26:25.57.

Competing for the JV Ladycats, Emily Lewis finished ninth, posting a 23:36.57 time. Catie Weimer was 38th with a 25:35.83.

Aledo’s next meet will be Saturday, Sept. 10 at Mineral Wells. First race will be at 8 a.m.
