Stokes shot a 3-over-par 75. The top medalist was Cort Quella of Northwest Blue, who finished with a 4-under-par 68.

“I’m happy with how the guys played at Sugartree. For one, Sugartree is a tough course that can get you in trouble if you are not able to keep it in the fairway. It’s a course where you don’t have a lot of room for errors off the box,” Bearcats coach Brian Mourning said. “We have got to get it going from the first tee and not give away shots within the first three holes.
“I believe as a team we were plus-11 thru the first two or three holes, then the guys settled in. We must get off to a better start.
“Gavin Beard and Braden Stokes played well for us. Both of those guys are sophomores and I’m happy with how they have come out and played this spring. Jett Moore struggled some Monday, I’m sure he will bounce back and be ready to go when district gets here in a few weeks. Ethan Elmore has played well the last two rounds at Sugartree.”
Rounding out the team scores throughout the district were Granbury Purple, 341; Granbury Gold, 355; Saginaw, 387; Azle Green, 397; Brewer, 399; and Azle White, 411.
The tournament is meant to provide an early look at the opposition before the District 5-5A Boys Tournament, a two-day event April 1-2, also at Sugar Tree. From there the top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Region I Tournament April 15-16 at Hillcrest Country Club in Lubbock.
From the regional tournament, the top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams will move on to the state tournament April 29-30 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.
The District 5-5A Girls Preview was being held at press time. The girls district tournament is April 4-5, both also at Sugar Tree.
