Bearcats repeat as winners

13th meet win in a row

Posted

Call it a baker’s dozen or just another day at the office, but the Aledo Bearcats won their 13th consecutive track meet when they topped the field at their own Aledo Meet at Bearcat Stadium on March 30.

As usual, the Bearcats scored big by winning all three relays. Also, Vincent Luffey won the 3200-meter run and finished second in the 800.

“We had a great home meet and final tuneup before district,” coach Andrew Clark said. “Different guys ran this week so that I could get some open event times as we go into the district meet. Trying to piece together a district lineup that will score the maximum amount of points possible in hopes of winning a district title and then getting enough guys to qualify to make a run at winning an area title too.

“All while making sure we get the relays to qualify for the regional meet and hopefully the state meet as well. From here on out the relays will change week-to-week. You may even see some guys run some events that they haven't run all season at the district meet. We need a good week of practice this week and we will be ready to go for the district meet.”

Aledo hosts the District 5-5A Meet Wednesday and Thursday, April 12-13. The top four finishers in each event qualify for area competition at Justin Northwest April 21.
