Bearcats open district play with rout of Granbury

Posted

Aledo followed its blowout win over the Euless Trinity Trojans on Sept. 11 with another rout, this time a 69-0 win over Granbury to open District 3-6A play.

It was all Bearcats from the start. The first quarter saw Aledo score 21 points quickly. Running back Wyatt Dorsey rushed for a 40-yard touchdown at the 9:15 mark to open up the scoring, and fellow running back Izzy Roberts increased Aledo’s lead to 14-0 with a 1-yard rush of his own with 2:57 in the quarter. Defensive lineman and Oregon State commit Tymon Meeks returned a blocked punt 50 yards for a touchdown with 1:35 left to extend the Bearcats’ lead to 21.

“It was greatness, man,” Meeks said of his touchdown. “I wish I would’ve ran a little bit harder. But you know, wasn’t nobody gonna catch me.”

The second quarter saw an avalanche of scoring from the Bearcats, with a 35-point showing allowing them to take a 56-0 lead to the half. Dorsey scored his second touchdown of the night on a 67-yard run at the 10:23 mark. Afterward, following numerous stands from the defense, quarterback Tre Williams threw four touchdowns, two of them to wide receiver Kane Lanier and the other two to tight end Colby Thompson. Williams’ two touchdowns to Lanier were of 56 and 72 yards, and his two touchdowns to Thompson were of 22 and 16 yards.

“I feel blessed. None of this would be possible without my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Williams said of his mindset following his performance. “None of this would’ve been possible without my offensive line and my receivers. My defense did an amazing job, they shut everyone out. I put all of the glory to those guys.”

Williams also credited consistency as to what helped the team’s mindset going into this week’s game.

“Coach Bishop, he always preaches that the best mark of a person is consistency. That was our thing going into this week. Doing the right things over and over again obviously translated into us winning the game.”

In the second half, Roberts scored his second touchdown of the night on an 11-yard rush, and wide receiver Cade Nussbaum capped off Aledo’s scoring with a 5-yard rush at the start of the fourth quarter.

Next week, the Bearcats will take on Arlington Martin in their homecoming game. Head coach Robby Jones emphasized keeping things rolling into that game.

“You gotta feel good about what you put out there this week and keep things rolling the way we had going tonight into next week,” Jones said. “Next week’s gonna be another quality opponent, kind of like what we saw the last three weeks. It’s gonna be a tough football game, so we’ve just gotta make sure that we’re up to the challenge.”
