The Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats got an early look at their fellow teams in District 5-5A when they competed in the Buzzy Open, hosted by the Azle Hornets and Lady Hornets at Cross Timbers Golf Course in Azle on Oct. 22.

Both the Bearcats and Ladycats Black teams placed second, while the Orange teams were third.

Emily Crick of the Ladycats Black squad won the individual girls championship, shooting a 3-over-par 75. Her teammate Reagan Gilliland shot a 90 to place fifth as the Black team posted a score of 351.

Braden Stokes led the Bearcats Black, finishing fifth individually among the boys with a 5-over-par 77. The team shot 329.

The Bearcats Orange posted a 333, while the Ladycats Orange registered a 392.

Granbury won both the boys and girls divisions.

"The boys got off to a slow start but battled back," Aledo coach Brian Mourning said. "Some guys are still struggling and not as consistent as we would like to be.

"It's still in the fall and that's a good thing. We need to be peaking in late spring. The guys are working on consistency every day.

"Same could be said with the girls team. Just need to be more consistent. It's a tough spot and we have to be able to bounce back as well."

Also for the boys Black, Ethan Elmore, 82; Tyler Anderson, 84; Maddox Jessup, 86; and Logan Lund, 86. Orange featured Brian Yarbrough, 78; Grayson Freeman, 84; William Kirkman, 85; Evan Boukadoun, 86; Pierce Russom, 94.

Also for the girls Black, Kylie Kirkland, 92; Harper Price, 94; and Addison Russ, 104. Orange scores were Layna Satterfield, 92; Sydney Purdon, 94; Abby Gray, 96; McKenzie Holman, 110; and Kennedy Bailey, 116.

The four lowest individual scores in each round comprise the team score.

The Ladycats varsity Orange will compete at Burleson's Hidden Creek Golf Course on Nov. 6. The Ladycats Black, along with the Bearcats Black and Orange, will compete in the Mansfield Lake Ridge Two Step at Grand Prairie's Tangle Ridge Golf Course on Nov. 8 to wrap up the fall schedule.
