Bearcats compete in Brewer Memorial

Field featured top 5A/6A teams

Posted

The Aledo Bearcats, never one to shy away from tough competition, took on some of the top 5A and 6A teams from throughout the state in the Jay Brewer Memorial Tiger Classic in Texarkana on Oct. 13-14.

The Bearcats finished 13th in the 22-team field, posting a two-day score of 350. They opened with a 324 and followed with a 326.

Aledo posted the best score of all the 5A teams entered.

“The guys played well but let some strokes get away from us. Texarkana Country Club is one of the best courses we will play all year,” coach Brian Mourning said. “It is also one of the toughest courses we will play. It’s a course where you can’t go at the pin, you must hit to certain parts of the green and hope it holds your ball due to all the undulating greens.

“Considering how the course played, I thought we played okay, but we could’ve been 12-15 shots better as a team. Overall, it was another good experience for our guys to play against some of the top competitors in the state.”

Braden Stokes led Aledo with a 158 (78-80), followed by Jett Moore with a 163 (84-79). Ethan Elmore came in with a 167 (79-88), while Tyler Anderson (83-85) and Helton Mosiello (86-82) each shot 168.

The four lowest scores in each round comprise the team score for that round.

The Bearcats and Ladycats will compete in their fall fundraiser Sunday, Oct. 22 at Split Rail.
