Area athletes chasing finals berths

Season hits midway point

As the North Texas High School Rodeo Association gears up for the second half of the 2023-24 season, several area competitors are vying for berths in the NTHSRA Finals Rodeo in mid-May. The top 15 in each event qualify for the Finals.

In chute dogging, a pair of Aledo athletes are hoping for a second-half surge to move into the top 15. Preston Ross is 20th with 61 points and Gunner McCraw is 21st with 56. The 15th place competitor has 105 points, while the leader has 560.

Brock’s Collier Cowdrey is in fourth place with 364 points.

Cowdrey is also second in calf roping with 539 points. He trails teammate Dylan Barrett, who leads with 581 points.

The pair also sit 1-2 in ribbon roping, with Barrett having a slightly larger lead. Barrett has 686 points and Cowdrey 462.

In bull riding, Weatherford’s Noah Lee is third with 210 points. Mecate Trammel of Millsap is in first place with 315 points.

Also from Weatherford, Reagan High is 11th in breakaway roping with 182 points. The leader in the event has 329.
