Aledo wrestlers shine in meets

Posted

Aledo wrestlers came home with plenty of honors at both the varsity and junior varsity level in tournaments last weekend.

The varsity boys and girls competed in the Talon Tournament in Haslet. The Bearcats were highlighted with a first-place finish by Collin Chaney in the 285-pound division, while Brice Bohn and Chad Thomas were each third at 106 and 120 pounds, respectively. Zachary Attaway placed fourth at 150 pounds.

"Great day for our Bearcat wrestlers!" said an excited coach Austin Stockon. "As a team we placed top five."

Chaney, competing in his first tournament ever, pinned all four of his opponents to take the title. One of his matches lasted just 46 seconds.

Freshman Bohn and Thomas, a team captain, both fell to regional qualifiers their first matches but were able to battle back.

The Ladycats placed second in their weight classes, team captains Avery Kernan (106) and Kyra Wright (114), along with Baillie Sessom (185). Rilei Blankenship (144) placed fourth, while Serafina Ceron (120) and Arianne Mathias (144) each finished fifth.

For Sessom, it was her first tournament ever in which she's competed.

"Our girls got the Talon Tournament kicked off with some great wins," Stockon said.
