The Aledo Bearcats defeated the Arlington Bowie Volunteers 45-7 Friday night, Oct. 9, at home.
Aledo linebacker Max Forman was all over the field for the Bearcats on all three sides of the ball. Forman rushed for a touchdown, blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown, and was consistently in the backfield pressuring the quarterback.
Forman’s rushing touchdown in the first quarter gave Aledo its first points of the night, and his touchdown on a blocked field goal came at the 4:27 mark of the second quarter to put Aledo up 14-7. From there, Aledo never relinquished the lead.
“It felt great,” Forman said on his rushing touchdown. “I played running back in pee-wee, so getting the ball back in my hands felt great. My defense gives me possibilities to make plays every single day.
“I give all glory to God, really,” Forman said. “My grandpa is probably going to pass tonight, so I give all glory to God. He’s got angels over me protecting me in everything that I do.”
Aledo head coach Robby Jones praised Forman for his efforts in the game.
“Max is a great kid. We’ve known Max since he was a little kid running around,” Jones said. “He had a brother who played for us, so we’ve known Max for a long time, they’re a great family. He had an unbelievable night with the blocked field goal for a touchdown. We used him in our goal-line package to try and get a big back in there, and scored a touchdown. He had a couple of touchdowns and had some sacks. Overall, it was a great performance by Max.”
Aledo forced a fumble to start the second half, and on the ensuing drive, quarterback Tre Williams threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Maddox Nurse to extend the lead to 21-7. Later on in the third, Williams connected with tight end Caden Palmquest for a 17-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 21 points.
In the fourth quarter, special teams and defense both contributed to more points for Aledo. Safety Dylan Tillis returned a punt for a touchdown to make it 35-7 with 11:02 to go, and kicker Hudson Parks made a 41-yard field goal with 7:41 left. Aledo capped off its scoring when linebacker Kason Evans returned an interception for a touchdown with about a minute left in the game.
The Bearcats scored their second-most points all season against Bowie and held their opponents to just seven points for the second time this season.
Aledo’s win improved its overall record to 3-3 and its district record to 2-1. The Bearcats’ next game will be against Arlington High School on Oct. 16.
