Posted

It was a clean sweep for Aledo cross country teams on Saturday, Aug. 19 as they swept all varsity and junior varsity competitions at the Cowtown Challenge, held at The Buff in Haltom City.

Madison Larson won an individual championship for a second straight week, topping the field in the 5K event with a time of 18 minutes, 54.95 seconds.

On the boys side, Jack Fink registered his first individual win of the season after taking second in the opening week. He clocked a time of 16:31.88 in his victory.

The Ladycats had four of the top five finishes, with Micah Neal taking second, Molly Garrison placing third and Sofia Brandenburg fifth. In fact, all seven Ladycat varsity runners placed in the top 10.

The junior varsity boys recorded a perfect score as the top five runners comprised the top five finishers, led by Layton Ybarra. The JV girls also had the individual winner with Aubrey Connally.

It's the second consecutive week they have competed in a meet at this venue. They began the season at the Birdville Early Bird Invitational on Aug. 12. In that 2-mile meet the Ladycats varsity also won while the Bearcats varsity was second.

"It was a great day for the Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats," coach Michael Pinkerton said.  "This was the first 5K of the season, and the entire meet was swept by our Ladycats and Bearcats!"

Aledo will next compete at the Southlake Carroll Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 26. First Race is at 6:40 a.m.
