Aledo High School hosted a 13-school robotics meet on Oct. 26 as area competition passes into the second half of the season. The event had all the planning, strategy and pressure other meets minus one element, judges.
Team mentor Susan Schoolfield explained the competition has all the implementations of a regular contest but without judges grading the process, documents and presentation like what would normally be done.
"There are referees here, but no judges," Schoolfield explained. "It's just pure competition. The crew members have their jobs to do but today this is all about the game."
Finley Van Dyke, a member of 20325 Maximum Resistance, broadcasted live podcast reports from the gym during the competition. The podcast is an ongoing project of Maximum Resistance.
Aledo teams are 6566 Circuit Breaker, 20325 Maximum Resistance, 9161 Overload and 13811 High Voltage. Robotics instructor Julia Reynolds explained the numbers with the team names indicate to the robotics governing body who they are and how long the team has been in existence, with the lower numbers the older teams.
The next event will be larger, with 35 schools expected to participate.
