Aledo squads dominate district meet

Ladycats post perfect score

Posted

Nothing new to see here. Well, there is a new group of district champions from Aledo, but as they have done so often, the Ladycats and Bearcats controlled the competition en route to twin titles.

It's the sixth consecutive league championship for the Bearcats and the fifth in six seasons for the Ladycats. Both teams are chasing return trips to state, with last season being the first in history for both Aledo teams to advance to state, and the Bearcats are seeking a third straight trip to Round Rock.

At the District 5-5A Meet, held at Central Park in White Settlement, the Ladycats posted a perfect team score of 15 points. They did so by having the top five individual finishers.

All seven Ladycat runners finished in the top 10 individually as they won the meet by 38 points over runner-up Azle with 53. The Bearcats had four top-10 finishers to score 28 and top second-place Azle with 70.

"We had some really outstanding performances on a tough course," Aledo coach Mike Pinkerton said.

Micah Neal won the individual varsity girls district championship, while Tyler Connelly captured the title among the boys. Molly Garrison and Jack Fink were runners-up.

The junior varsity girls and boys were each second in their group, with Landon Eaton winning the JV boys individual championship.

"Tremendous day by all groups!" Pinkerton exclaimed.

The varsity teams will now move on to the Region I Cross Country Meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Tuesday, Oct. 22. From there, the top four teams and top 10 runners not on qualifying teams will advance to state at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Nov. 2.

"Very proud of all of our Ladycat and Bearcat runners," Pinkerton said.
