Aledo runners compete in elite Arkansas meet

Ladycats fifth

Posted

The Aledo cross country program is so good even the state's borders can't contain it.

Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but what isn't an exaggeration is both the Ladycats and Bearcats held their own in the prestigious Chilie Pepper Cross Country Festival at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Ladycats finished fifth out of 83 teams in the girls division, while the boys were 30th out of 110, all competing against some of the nation's top competition from across several states.

A day earlier, the junior varsity teams competed more locally - but in the varsity division at the Race For the Loot meet at the Granbury Disc Golf Course. The JV boys finished 14th and the girls were 15th.

"The Aledo cross country teams had another great week of racing," said coach Mike Pinkerton.

The Ladycats varsity was led by Madison Larson, who was 16th with a time of 18 minutes, 12.2 seconds over the 5-kilometer course. Micach Neal was 19th in 18:21 and Molly Garrison was 21st in 18:21.8.

Layton Ybarra paced the Bearcats, finishing 64th in a time of 16:21.2.

Pinkerton said the weather in Fayetteville was humid, but not as hot as it's been locally.

"The competition was unbelievable," he said. "The Bearcats and Ladycats both gave it all they had – which is what we do. Their results certainly speak for themselves.

"Extremely proud of all of our runners. They put in an incredible amount of work and mileage every week – and it is really paying off."

The Bearcats and Ladycats will not have a meet this week. Their next meet will be the District 5-5A Championships at Central Park in White Settlement on Friday, Oct. 13.
