Aledo Lions Club offers chance for scholarships

Posted

The Aledo Community Lions Club will choose high school juniors or seniors to represent them in each of three annual scholarship contests sponsored by the Lions of District 2-E2.

The first is a drug awareness speech contest: “Pharmaceutical Fentanyl vs. Illegal Fentanyl.” The contest is a 5-7 minute oration of a prepared text from memory. Scholarships of $1,500, $1,000, and $500 will be awarded.

The second is a Diabetes awareness essay contest: “Diabetes: Knowing Your Number, Health Complications, Treatment Alternatives, and Healthy Living.” The contest is a written composition of up to 1,500 words that is read. Scholarships will be $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000.

The third is an outstanding youth contest; “The Impact of Technology on Society,” with two $2,000 scholarships. The contest consists of a 750 word theme and a 15-20 minute interview of biographical information submitted by the applicant.

The contests will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, in Fort Worth.

The winner of each contest will represent Lions District 2-E2 in the State Lions competition where the three top prizes will be $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 scholarships. Those contests will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, via Zoom.  No more than 16, and likely fewer, contestants will participate in each of the State contests.
