The Texas High School Athletic Directors Association recently honored Aledo ISD with the Texas Cup for the district’s 2025-26 sports seasons.
The award, in its first year, recognizes the top overall athletic program in each of the six University Interscholastic League classifications. Points are earned by place finished in district, regional and state competition with a graduated system of points as a team advances in competition beyond district play.
Aledo won for Class 5A.
Aledo’s consistency in winning in each sport contributed to the district winning the award. Aledo won a state title in baseball and finished second in softball. Its football and volleyball teams made it to the state semifinal games, and the girls cross country team finished third at the state meet.
Aledo also sported individual state-qualifiers in girls tennis, boys cross country, boys golf, boys and girls swimming, along with boys and girls wrestling.
Aledo finished the athletic year with a combined 95-0-3 record in district play. All nine team sports won their respective district championships.
“We are very excited about winning the Texas Cup. It is an incredible honor and a reflection of the collective excellence of Aledo Athletics in the 2025-26 school year,” AISD Athletic Director Brandy Belk. “This recognition would not be possible without our outstanding coaches, whose leadership and commitment create opportunities for our student-athletes to succeed, and our kids, who represent Aledo with tremendous dedication, character and pride.
The other inaugural Texas Cup winners are:
Gordon, 1A; Shiner, 2A; Wall, 3A; Canyon, 4A; and Southlake Carrol, 6A.
In Class 5A, Aledo garnered 96 points, edging Prosper Walnut Grove by one point.
