The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications, based on their team performance in district and state championships.
Aledo High School earned 104 points to beat out 193 other Class 5A schools. The 104 points were the fourth-most among all six classifications combined.
“The 2024-2025 school year was incredible for our Aledo High School extracurricular programs,” AHS-Daniel Ninth Grade Principal Michael Martinak said. “I got to witness the long hours and hard work put in by all of these students with the support of their coaches and sponsors, and it’s rewarding to see their dedication and perseverance get recognized like this. Congratulations to our entire student body, staff and community.”
Standings for the UIL Lone Star Cup are compiled via a year-long accumulation of points based on team success at the district and state level. The winning schools in each classification will receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship.
In winning the 2025 Class 5A UIL Lone Star Cup, Aledo earned points for team tennis, girls cross country, marching band, bolleyball, football, spirit/cheerleading, girls basketball, boys basketball, robotics FIRST, boys soccer, girls soccer, district UIL academics, one-act play, softball and baseball. “This is a huge accomplishment that is the culmination of early mornings and late nights, hard work and leadership, being good teammates and friends, and believing in yourself and your team,” Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn said. “We are often called ‘Titletown’ in Aledo, and we have always known that it goes far beyond athletics fields and courts - it’s about exceptional experiences in all areas for our Bearcats. Thank you to our staff, parents and community who rally behind and support our students and are always #AllinAledo for our students.”
This is the first time Aledo has won the Lone Star Cup outright. In 1998 - the year of the first-ever Lone Star Cup - AHS was Class 3A co-champs with Dripping Springs. Aledo finished second in the 2023-2024 Class 5A Lone Star Cup.
