The AHS robotics team Maximum Resistance made it into the top ten of UIL Class 5A competition on May 10 in Corpus Christi, but competition eventually left the team off the award podium.
Computer science instructor and robotics teacher Julia Reynolds said the team worked diligently together.
“The team competed with determination and skill throughout the event, ultimately falling just short of the medal stand. Their strong showing continues Aledo’s proud tradition of excellence in robotics competition,” the instructor said.
Team members are Omar Cervantes, Jake Fergus, Ryan Hajj, Jackson Hamner, Ben McCain, Landon McNeil, Brayden Richardson, Cameron Robbins, Cooper Simpson, Alex Steward, and captain Finley Van Dyk.
Aledo has several robotics teams, and Reynolds explained only the highest performing team in regular season and regional competition can represent the school.
“We have another team, 6566 Circuit Breakers, who received a very high award for their engineering portfolio at the regional championship. They will compete in Kentucky in June at an event with teams from around the country and world,” Reynolds stated. “This is an unusually long competition season. Normally we are through with all events in April but the UIL state meet was postponed due to an issue at the state level with their leadership.”
