Aledo High School nearly triples number of National Merit Commended Students

In one year’s time, Aledo High School nearly tripled its number of students earning National Merit Commended Student status, going from six in 2021-2022 to 16 in 2022-2023.

It was announced earlier this month that these 16 students - all seniors - are a part of about 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

The students who earned the distinction are Jackson Adams, Marshall Anderson, Kate Bettencourt, Caden Breito, Nathan Buck, Devan Dave, Morgan Furlow, Fabian Garcia, Nathaniel Houchen, Jordan Ivonen, Ayden Jantzen, Andrew Miller, Bennett Moorman, Fyn Neeley, Kaley Schabel and Michael Worch.

Aledo High School announced last week that seniors Luke Shelton and Zach Taylor earned National Merit Semifinalist status.

“Our extra emphasis on advanced academics and helping our students prepare for the SAT has definitely paid off, and I can see this upward trend of student success in the National Merit Scholarship program continuing,” Aledo High School principal Angi Tims said. “I am so proud of our 16 Bearcat students who received the Commended Student recognition as it is a huge honor not only for them but also for their teachers and the entire Aledo High School community.”
