Under a cloudy sky and after a rainy night, 150 golfers signed in to play in the Aledo Education Foundation’s 24th Annual Don R. Daniel Aledo Golf Classic at Split Rail Golf Club Friday morning, May 30.

Executive Director Courtney Leaverton was concerned that the rain might not hold off, but the sun came out just after the 8 a.m. tee time.

“It’s incredible to see the community come together to support our students and staff to make sure our district gets to do the extra things that the state doesn’t necessarily provide,” Leaverton explained the Foundation’s purpose.

The Education Foundation was created in 2013, and has raised close to $4 million, benefitting student and teacher programs alike, including 615 teaching and campus grants. They are dedicated to, “fostering community support and involvement in the district.”

The nonprofit seeks to combine the civic, business, and educational aspects of the community to enhance and enrich the lives of their students and educators with three major fundraising events each year.

Bearcats ‘n Boots is held each spring, the Bearcat Blast Clay Shoot each fall, and the Golf Classic kicks off the summer. “A big thank you to all of our sponsors, competitors, and volunteers,” Leaverton said, “they make this day possible.”
