Aledo boys compete in Class 6A Coppell Tournament

Bearcats close action with three consecutive wins; Pacheco named to all-tourney team

The Aledo Bearcats basketball team hit the road to compete in the Coppell Tournament, full of Class 6A competition, following their season-opening home win over Trinity. In the tournament, Aledo opened with consecutive losses to the host team Coppell (97-66) and MacArthur (68-58) before winning their final three contests against the field.

The first win came by a final score of 63-47 over Churchill followed by a 77-38 romp over Leadership Prep and concluded with a 62-56 victory over Tyler. For his efforts across five games, senior guard Enrique Pacheco earned a spot on the all-tournament team. He totaled 106 points for an average of 21.2 points per contest, which included 27 points against Coppell and 28 versus Churchill. Pacheco scored at least 19 points in all but one tournament game.

Meanwhile, junior guard Caden Cunningham and senior forward Townes Van Huysen shined throughout the action as well – Cunningham averaged 14.6 points per game and Van Huysen averaged 14.7 per contest – Van Huysen missed two games in the tournament to injury while Cunningham had a season-high 27 points in Aledo’s six-point win over Tyler.

The Bearcats (5-2) followed the tournament with a 50-38 road win at Midlothian Heritage.
