Cameron Martinez, a 2012 graduate of Aledo High School, has been named to the Sarah Lawrence College (SLC) Athletic Hall of Fame, the first such honor since the college joined NCAA Division III in 2015-2016.

Martinez was the college’s Athlete of the Year for four consecutive years for his accomplishments in swimming. Martinez was also a member of SLC’s men’s volleyball team, where he led in kills and digs during the 2015 season. While he was successful on the court, his greatest athletic achievements during his time as a Gryphon came in the pool.

Wasting no time as a first year student, Martinez broke six program records in his first season and would go on to own nine individual program records and was a part of all five relay records. On top of recognition within the SLC program, Martinez impressed at the conference and region levels as well. The swimmer won the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Douglas McDevitt Award as the top male swimmer in the league for the 2015-16 season in addition to being named Skyline Most Outstanding Swimmer.

He earned First Team All-Conference Awards in both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons and was named Skyline Swimmer of the Week an impressive eleven times in his final two years with the Gryphons. In his final season as a Gryphon, which was also SLC’s first year in the NCAA, Martinez was named an Honorable Mention All-American, qualifying in the 200 IM, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Butterfly. At the NCAA National Championship meet, he finished ninth in the 200 Butterfly, winning the B final with a time of 1:48.22.

Martinez returned to Sarah Lawrence following graduation as an assistant swim coach, where he would remain until 2018. He continues to remain heavily involved with the sport by working as a trainer and a coach in a swim program.
