Parker County Extension Education Association’s 2012 Spring Fling will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at Couts United Methodist Church in Weatherford. Event speakers will include, Dr. James Roland on landscapes and Shirley Riebe on jewelry and accessories, old and new. Morgan Eddy of Freedom House will talk about human trafficking and Rev. Georgia Orr will share tips for a full life. There will be a fashion show and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will also be door prizes, a raffle table and silent auction. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from Parker County Extension club members and through the Texas AgriLife Extension office in Parker County. Proceeds from the event will benefit Parker County 4-H Scholarships and Extension Education programs. For more information call 817-598-6168.

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer parenting classes from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, April 16 and 17, 2012 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center in Weatherford. The classes will use the curriculum “Parenting Connections,” which covers Child Growth and Development, Parent Child Communication, Positive Discipline, Managing Anger, and Developing Your Child’s Self Esteem. Also covered in the classes will be a presentation on Keeping Children Healthy, Food Safety and Shopping Strategies for Healthy Eating. Cost for the two-day session is $10, which includes lunches. Texas AgriLife in Parker County will host a free, two-workshop series “Where Do I Start?” to help individuals prepare for work from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 6 and 7 at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service invites everyone to an evening of learning and fun with a Mardi Gras theme and a Cajun flare. The Dinner Tonight Healthy Living Cooking School will be held will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center, 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
The event will feature recipe demonstrations, meal preparation ideas and healthy living tips to help you live healthier. The goal is to promote family mealtime, teach families healthy meal planning and food preparation techniques and promote Texas Agriculture.
Cost for the cooking school is $15 per person, which includes a meal, recipes and door prizes. For more information, or to reserve a seat, call 817-598-6168.
The Parker County office of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service will offer a series called “Ag 101 for Small Acreage Land Owners” at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Nov. 15. Fee for the series is $35 per household, which includes handbook and refreshments. Pre-Registration by Nov. 14 is required by calling 817-598-6168. If you are a relatively new landowner and have questions on how to manage your land, this program is for you, according to Jon Green, County Extension Agent - Agriculture for Parker County. Past year’s participants with properties ranging from 5 acres to over 100 acres all increased their knowledge base of ag related topics, Green added.
The series begins on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Extension office meeting room at 604 North Main in Weatherford. The remaining dates are November 22 and 29.
Topics to be covered over the three evenings include:
• Beef Cattle Management on small acreage
• Goat Management on small acreage
• Wildlife on Small Acreage
• Pond Management
• Plant Identification
• Soils & Soil Testing
• Pasture and Hay Field Management
• Oak Wilt & Tree Care
• Ag. and Wildlife Valuation of Property
Due to seating capacity, the program is limited to the first 25 landowners and spouses who pre-register by November 14, Green said. The fee for this series is $35 per household which includes the series handbook and refreshments.

Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will conduct a series of workshops called Master of Memory. The workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays, Oct. 20, 27 and Nov. 3. The classes will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford. Many people mistakenly believe that memory loss and aging go hand-in-hand: as a person gets older his or her memory begins to fail. Medical conditions, medications, diet and exercise, among other things, may all play a role in how your memory works. “Master of Memory” will also help you identify and use strategies to improve memory function. Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will host “Twogether in Texas” marriage education class from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The class will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center and will be free of charge. Couples who complete a class will save $60 on their marriage license. The classes focus on helping couples develop communication and conflict resolution skills and other tools for strong relationships. The workshops will cover the following topics: How to Fill out Job Applications, How to Write a Resume, How to Search the Internet for a Job, Using the Texas Workforce, Interview Techniques, Customer Service Skills, Keeping a Job, How to Dress for Success, Looking Your Best Makeovers, Back to Work Hair Fashions, Stretching Food Dollars, Food Safety and Basic Nutrition. Speakers will include Texas Workforce, Mary Kay, Aledo Advocats, Jim Morrow, Johnnie Kelly, and Kathy Smith. The series is free of charge, but pre-registration is requested by Friday, Oct. 14. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a food handlers class from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. The two hour classes is a Texas Department of State Health Services accredited food handlers program. This class is recommended for all food service employees to help promote the service of safe food. The class is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure participants serve safe food at their establishments. Some practices discussed will be Good Personal Hygiene, Cross Contamination and Time and Temperature abuse. The $20 fee covers training and handouts. This certification is good for two years and is recognized throughout Texas. To register, call the Parker County Extension Office at 817-598-6168.
Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer a one-day food manager certification training course, Food Safety: It’s Our Business, for food service managers beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. An examination following the course. The course will take place the Parker County Agricultural Services Center, located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.
