Weatherford council looking to move ahead on budget

Dawn Brooks, Chief Financial Officer for the City of Weatherford, addressed the council and many residents Tuesday, Aug. 27, with a detailed supplemental proposal for the City of Weatherford’s 2025 budget.

On Aug. 13, City Manager James Hotopp submitted the proposed budget, which included revenue projections and expenditure plans for the coming fiscal year This budget will raise more from property taxes than last year’s budget by $141,965, or 0.95%. Of that amount, $242,112 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year, beginning Oct. 1, 2024 and ending Sept. 30, 2025.

Residents are welcome to attend and provide feedback on the proposed budget, which is scheduled to be adopted on Sept. 10.

 

Tax rate

The proposed tax rate for the coming fiscal year is $0.39842 per $100 valuation. This is a slight decrease from the current $0.39900.

Just as with the budget, a public hearing must be scheduled for the new tax rate. The hearing be Sept. 10, with a vote to adopt the rate following the hearing.

 

Upgrade in cyber security

Diana Allen, Director of Human Resources, presented a report on how cyber security has been the focal point of concern for all government agencies.

She noted the City of Weatherford recognizes the need for comprehensive cyber security coverage to protect its digital assets, infrastructure, and sensitive data. The city has had coverage with the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool since 2016. This is an updated coverage structure and a contribution increase.

The financial impact is $1,875 per year, representing a $1,400 yearly increase compared to the previous agreement. The proposed amount will be covered in the FY25 budget without significant impact, officials noted.

 

Mayor recognizes WFFA for its 75th anniversary.

Weatherford Mayor Paul Paschal read a proclamation congratulating television station WFAA on its upcoming milestone anniversary. He recognized the Dallas-based station on turning 75 on Sept. 17, thanking them for serving Weatherford and North Texas.
