WC’s Morris wins national VB award

Weatherford College volleyball player Abby Morris won the National Offensive Player of the Week award from the National Junior College Athletic Association for Sept. 11-17. Morris, a freshman from Huntington, Utah, had 68 kills, a .220 hitting efficiency and four kills per set during a five-match trip to Salt Lake City. She was named to the all-tournament team at the UFirst Intermountain Invitational.
She had two matches with 21 kills against Eastern Arizona and the College of Southern Idaho, not to mention six aces, six blocks and 34 digs.

 

WC golfers tie for second

In the first tournament of the new year, the Weatherford College men’s golf team tied for second place out of 15 teams at the Waco River Classic played Sept. 16-17 at Bear Ridge Golf Club.

WC finished 11-over-par and got better throughout the three rounds, shooting 8-over in the first round, 2-over in the second and 1-over in the third.
Weatherford’s top individual was Giovanni Vezza, who placed ninth out of 99 golfers at 1 under. Dawson Langan was 12th at 1 over.

The WC women’s golf A-team finished sixth out of 10 teams. WC’s Corrina Haros was 18th out of 63 golfers.

 

Aledo JV girls third in varsity CC meet

The Aledo Ladycats junior varsity cross country team placed third in the varsity girls division in the Prowl in the Park in Benbrook, hosted by Fort Worth South Hills. Both races for the girls and boys were 5K.

The Bearcats placed ninth.

AMS cross country

Aledo Middle School hosted its first cross country meet on Sept. 18. The seventh- and eighth-grade boys teams each came in first, while the seventh- and eighth-grade girls teams each came in second.

Seventh-grade girls: 1. Austyn Wiatrek, 4. Piper Sweeney, 5. Avery Williams, 14. Blythe Hayes, 16. Jewel Mayes.

Seventh-grade boys: 1. Levi Lund, 2. Jayden Smith, 3. Maxwell Troung, 6. Ethan Miller, 7. Isaac Gideon, 9. Colin Oligschlaeger, 12. Lincoln Sloan.

Weatherford Hall cross country

Medalists from the Poolville Meet were:

Seventh-grade girls:

Anna Wyatt, fourth out of 112 runners.

Seventh-grade boys: Jayden Hendrix, seventh out of 73 runners.

Eighth-grade boys: Ian Edwards, 15th out of 82 runners.

 

Weatherford Tison cross country

Aiden Houghton placed third among eighth-grade in the Poolville Meet. Aaliyah Dixon was ninth among seventh-grade girls.

 

AMS football

Aledo Middle School swept Arlington Howard.

Seventh-grade: A won 37-0, B won 47-0. Both teams are 2-0.

Eighth-grade: A won 32-13, B won 16-6. Both teams are 3-0.

In a crossover pickup game, McAnally C defeated AMS 6-0.

 

Weatherford High freshman football

The Kangaroos freshmen Blue team defeated Royce City

12-6. Players of the game wee Devin Walls and Haidyn Olson.

 

Weatherford Hall football

The seventh-grade A team defeated Granbury 30-6. Carlito Richards was named player of the game and Henderson Gaylord is the offensive lineman of the game.

The seventh-grade B team won 32-22 over Acton. Gage Seal and Ayden Troutman were players of the game.

Eighth-grade A won 34-20 with Mason Toombs named player of the game.

Eighth-grade B defeated Acton 16-0. Players of the game were Steven Peterson with a TD catch and Hunter Smith with an interception returned for a TD.

 

Aledo JV volleyball

The Ladycats swept Saginaw on Friday, Sept. 20. They won the first set 25-4 and the second 25-7.

 

AMS vs. McAnally Middle School volleyball

Seventh-grade: McAnally A won 25-18, 22-25, 15-10; AMS B won 25-9, 21-25, 15-8; AMS C won 19-25, 25-9, 15-3.

Eighth-grade: AMS A won 25-21, 25-13; AMS B won 25-18, 25-14; AMS C won 21-25, 25-9, 15-3.

 

WC volleyball

The No. 7 Weatherford College volleyball team swept Vernon College on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

WC won the first two sets in dominating fashion, 25-10 and 25-13. Vernon put up a fight in the third set, but the Coyotes prevailed, 25-23.

Kiama Souza was a force on defense, registering 23 digs in the match. Weronika Urbanksa led WC in kills with 11 along with 10 digs. Abby Morris had 10 kills and seven digs.

WC improved to 15-5 overall, having won 14 of its last 15 matches.

 

Weatherford Tison volleyball

The Tison eighth-grade A team won the Bronze Bracket at the Eagle Mountain Saginaw Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21. Player of the day was Isabella Hale.

 

Weatherford Hall volleyball

Hall went 2-2 in matches against Granbury Acton.

Seventh grade: A won 25-10, 24-26, 15-7; B lost 25-18, 25-22.

Eighth grade:

A won 25-20, 25-8; B lost 27-25, 10-25, 25-15.

Players of the match were Mayson Soper, 7A; Maci Hardin, 7B; Laine Tomlinson, 8A; Colbie Ogle and Mackenzie Glasgow, 8B.

 

WC rodeo opens in New Mexico

Weatherford College started the rodeo season this past weekend in Portales, New Mexico, at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo. Jacee Graff came in second in goat tying with 15.8 on two.

In breakaway roping, Kaydence Tindal’s 14.8 on two was good for sixth place. Mitchie Storey finished eighth overall in saddle bronc riding following a third-place finish of 78.5 in the first round and a no-time in the short go.

In team roping, Conley Kleinhans and Catcher Gasperson finished eighth, while Lane Webb and Landon West tied for 10th.

 

Fight Like a Girl Golf Tournament

Squaw Creek Golf Course will host the Fight Like a Girl Golf Tournament on Oct. 25, benefitting Erin Miller and her fight against cancer. The tournament, featuring a four-person scramble format, will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start, with lunch, raffle and prizes to follow.

Entry fee is $250 per player and $250 for hole sponsors. Other opportunities available are team sponsor (one team and tee box sign), $1,000; gold sponsor (two teams, a tee box sign and a sign in the common area), $2,500; and tournament sponsor (two teams, tee box sign, tournament banner, giveaway), $5,000.
