Peach Festival annual event again lives up to name

Posted

Intense heat and the blazing sun never stops locals and visitors from enjoying the annual Parker County Peach Festival. Every summer, the picturesque town of Weatherford comes alive with the sights, sounds, and scents of this lively event.

Held annually since 1985, with the exception of one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this much-anticipated event celebrates the county's rich agricultural heritage and the delicious peach, a fruit synonymous with Parker County.

The Parker County Peach Festival, typically held on the second Saturday in July, draws thousands of visitors from across Texas and beyond. What started as a small, local gathering has grown into a major event, attracting over 50,000 attendees annually.

“My family and I come here every year. We never leave without grabbing some peach salsa,” visitor Sandra Leison said.

The festival's growth reflects the community's dedication to preserving its agricultural roots while fostering a sense of camaraderie and celebration.

At the heart of the festival is, of course, the peach. Local farmers proudly showcase their freshest, juiciest peaches, and visitors can purchase them by the basketful. From the classic yellow peach to the sweet white variety, there's a peach for every palate.

In addition to fresh fruit, the festival features a plethora of peach-themed treats, including peach ice cream, cobbler, pie, jam, and even peach salsa. The creativity and variety of peach-based dishes are a testament to the fruit's versatility and the local culinary talent.

But the Parker County Peach Festival is not just about peaches. It's a full-day affair filled with activities and entertainment for all ages. The festival boasts over 200 arts and crafts vendors, offering everything from handmade jewelry to home décor.

Live music is also a staple, with multiple stages featuring local bands and performers playing a range of genres, from country to rock.

The festival is a celebration of community, tradition, and the enduring spirit of Parker County. Each year, it brings together people from all walks of life to enjoy the simple pleasures of fresh peaches, good music, and the warmth of a tight-knit community. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a festival regular, the Parker County Peach Festival offers a delightful experience that captures the essence of summer in Texas.
