Aledo scores wins over Highland Park,Waco Midway

Ladycat win streak grows to six

The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, against another strong opponent. This time, the Ladycats took down the Highland Park Lady Scots at home in four sets by a final score of 21-25, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-20.

After dropping the first set, the Ladycats were able to regroup behind strong front line play from seniors Kinley Elms, Haley Lowe, and junior Alyssa Todd to eventually run away with the second set. Aledo then carried that momentum into the final two sets as the back line, led by Ella Meador and Kenrie Pruitt, continued to make quality passes off Highland Park’s strong attacks.

Ultimately, the Ladycats walked away with the win in their second-to-last pre-district contest. Five of Aledo’s last six wins during the streak have come against teams with a winning record.

Elms led in the kills department for Aledo with 17 while also contributing 12 digs and two blocks. Todd recorded 16 kills and three blocks while Lowe added six kills and a team-high seven blocks.

Morgan Esteves and Ella Isbell recorded six kills and four blocks, respectively, while Esteves also had a pair of blocks. Senior setter Ava Reding produced 28 assists, 12 digs and two service aces while junior setter Sophie Frank finished with 15 assists. Meador had a team-high 16 digs along with two aces while Pruitt tallied 13 digs. Logyn Denbow also had a strong showing with 13 digs.

 

Sweep of Paschal

The Ladycats made short of Fort Worth Paschal on Sept. 3, winning 25-12, 25-22 and 25-13. Before the win over Paschal, the Ladycats took down J.J. Pearce, Amarillo, Burleson and Martin, dropping only three total sets across the four matches to win the Arlington Classic.

Against Paschal, Elms led the charge offensively with 11 kills and three blocks while Tatum Kosse was also impactful on the front line with 10 kills and two blocks. Lowe impressed with seven kills and two blocks while Ella Isbell added a team-high four stuffs.

Reding had a significant impact with 16 assists, 10 digs and three service aces while Frank added 11 assists. Pruitt anchored the back line with a team-high 16 digs and two aces while Meador tallied 12 digs and three aces. Denbow also contributed with nine digs and three aces while Lily Lufkin recorded a pair of blocks.

The Ladycats begin District 5-5A play Friday, Sept. 13 at Brewer at 6 p.m.

The Aledo Ladycats defeated Waco Midway in straight sets on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
