Man arrested, charged with animal cruelty

June 11, 2014 by Randy Keck

Weatherford-Parker County Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team Unit members located a man wanted in connection with a dog cruelty case.

F.A.S.T. members contacted Dallas authorities late Tuesday evening about the man, who is the suspect of a Parker County case where a puppy was killed after the suspect threw it from a car window while driving down Interstate 20, last Friday, June 6, 2014.

A Tarrant County Constable reported the incident to Sheriff’s deputies just before 7 a.m., after a female assault victim reported the incident.

Sheriff’s reports indicate the suspect, identified as Marquael Odoric Greer, 32, of Lancaster, was engaged in a verbal dispute with his girlfriend, Shaquitha Pratt, 33, of Ferris, while traveling eastbound on Interstate 20.

Pratt, a passenger in the vehicle, was holding the 6-week-old, white, male Chihuahua mix-breed puppy in her lap at the time of the argument.

Pratt reported to Tarrant County deputies that the puppy was killed by Greer while traveling in Parker County near the 423 mile marker post. Pratt said she and Greer argued while he traveled at a high rate of speed. Greer then rolled the window down, grabbed the puppy from Pratt’s lap and threw it out of the window and continued to travel eastbound on Interstate 20.

Pratt also reported to Tarrant County deputies that Greer then physically assaulted her and kicked her and another male passenger out of the vehicle.

Pratt was reportedly taken to a Fort Worth hospital, where she was treated for injuries sustained during the assault which is being investigated by Tarrant County authorities.

Deputies arrived on scene and observed the deceased puppy near the shoulder of the interstate with blood coming from its nose and mouth. Deputies also observed the puppy’s head to be swollen from trauma. Sheriff’s deputies observed blood in the center of the freeway, where the puppy had landed after hitting the roadway.

F.A.S.T. members located the suspect Tuesday evening, who was later taken into custody by Dallas authorities on the felony cruelty to non-livestock animals; torture charge.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Greer remained in custody at the Dallas County Jail.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said the puppy’s death is the latest incident proving that, “Parker County does not have an animal problem. We have a people problem.”
