Austin Gullett

Henry Austin Gullett was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Malvern, Ark., son of the late Ben Henry and Rosie Butler Gullett. Austin owned and operated Gullett's Old Fashioned Meat Market on the west side of Fort Worth for 22 years where he loved to cut meat and serve his customers. He was absolutely loved by all who knew him. Austin loved to be outdoors, work in his garden, and drive his John Deere tractor. His true love, however, was his family.

Austin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J.D. and Melton Gullett; sister, Nora Lee Davis; and a great-granddaughter, Breanna Madey.

Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Jean Gullett of Weatherford; daughters, Linda Eckles and husband, David, of Fort Worth, Sharon Bronaugh and husband, Gary, of Weatherford, Angie Brown and husband, Jim, of North Richland Hills, and Beverly Allen of Weatherford; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Christine Henson and husband, Bill, of Mustang, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving family and friends.

Vivian Annette Morse Silva was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Burden, Okla., the fourth of 11 children born to the late George Wallace and Frances Elizabeth Williams Morse. Very career focused, Vivian was a real estate broker for many years in California before she moved to Weatherford in 2006. She was a lover of horses and animals of all kinds.

Vivian was preceded in death by a son, Joey Sterns; her parents; and two brothers, Earl and Gordon Morse.

Survivors: Daughters, Vicky Hansma of Texas, Tami Fairbairn of Millsap, and Mary Ann Rapp and husband, Philip, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Brandon Coe, Ryan Rapp, and Emma Rapp; sister, Jeanne Morse; brother, Delbert Morse and wife, Gretchen; brother, Murray Morse and wife, Norma; sister, Shirley Fann and husband, Arlie; brother, Richard Morse; sister, Joyce; sister, Joannie Brass and husband, Bob; brother, Jimmy Morse; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Erman was born October 10, 1941, son of the late Martin and Lorene Jackson, in Colorado City. He was a long time resident of Parker County. Erman was an avid family man who loved life and never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling and family camp outs. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors: wife of 47 years, Patty Ann Jackson; son, Deryll Jackson of Weatherford; daughters, Debra Greenway and husband, James of Weatherford and Darla Criswell and husband, Phil of Granbury; grandchildren, Nathan, Jessica, Matthew, Lacy, Lindsey and Stephanie; and a host of loving family and friends.

Robert Porter Wollaston

Bob came to Texas from Kellogg, Idaho, while serving honorably in the U.S. Army and decided to stay after meeting his loving wife, Rhoda. He worked in communications and the crimes against children for the Fort Worth Police Department for 44 years before retiring in 2007. Bob also worked for the Fort Worth ISD as an announcer at multiple sporting events. His favorite location to work at was Farrington Field. Bob served as a longtime Aledo City Council member. He loved helping others and spending time with his family. Bob took many wonderful vacations over the years with them. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandpa and will be dearly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, John Wollaston; mother, Marcella Riep; stepfather, Paul Riep; and sister, Loretta Cannon.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rhoda Wollaston; daughter, Dana Ward and her husband, Jeff; grandson, Austin Ward; granddaughter, Ellie Ward; brother, John Wollaston of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Janie Edna Hobbs
Edna was born October 4, 1936 in Jackson, Ga. to the late William Edward and Janie Bell Maddox. She devoted her time and energy to her family and friends, she touched the lives of many with her generosity. Edna enjoyed cooking and believed food and family was good for the soul.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Talmadge Lender Hobbs in 2003; daughters, Kim Winona Murr in 2002 and Karen Rene Ford in 2004.

Survivors: children, Keith Hobbs of Alexandria, La., Kenny Hobbs of Elmora, Pa., Kelley Hobbs of San Diego, Calif., Krystal Shirley of Blooming Grove, Kristy Hulsey of Mobile, Ala., and Kirk Hobbs of Fort Worth; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Marion Maddox of Jackson, Ga.; many nieces, nephews; and special friend, Lydia Lantz.

Mary Wright Connell

Mary Wright Connell, local poet and artist, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, October 23. She was 83.

Born Mary Nelle Wright in Dallas on August 16, 1928 to James Claude and Marie Lyster Wright, she grew up alongside an older brother, Jim, and a younger sister, Betty Lee.

Mary grew up in Weatherford, where she graduated from high school at age 15. She attending five universities including Cumberland University law school and was a member of Mensa. She had a varied professional life, at various points she helped her father manage a family business; owned/operated small hotels in Santa Fe, New Mexico and The Unicorn restaurant in Fort Worth; and was secretary to an ambassador in Washington, D.C.

Mary’s memory will live on through her poetry, sculptures and paintings. Several books of Mary’s poetry were published including After the Badlands, From the Skin In, and Help is on the Way which was published in London with a foreword by Graham Greene. Performances of Mary’s poetry and songs have been staged at Hip Pocket Theater, the Grandbury Opera House, and Caravan of Dreams. Letters exchanged between Mary and Graham Greene are included in archival collections of Graham Greene’s papers.

Mary’s full-hearted embrace of life was often expressed in her poetry:

Whether we feasted or whether we fasted,

our wine was not warm and our warmth was not wasted.

Our summer had shimmer and shape while it lasted,

our apples and grapes did not shrivel untasted.

Era Mae Towles

Era was born May 6, 1927 to Nathan and Pearl Brewer in Weatherford.
She was a long time resident of Parker County. Her later years have been spent at Crescent Senior Care with loving people whom she loved and who loved her. Mrs. Towles was an avid cook. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly.
Era was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; one brother; and a sister.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth Towles and wife, Elaine of Aledo and Ron Towles and wife, Connie of Mansfield; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many friends and acquaintances.

Dorothy Louise Howell

Dorothy was born on May 5, 1925 to Ernest M. and Charlcy Bell Brawley in Littlefield. She was a longtime resident of Springtown. Dorothy was a great business woman, she owned and operated Howell's Western Cafe for 50 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude; her brother, Jimmy; and grandson, Brad.

Survivors: daughters, Linda Grimes and husband, Todd, of Azle, Sandra Ault and husband, Norman, of Arkansas, Shirley Fletcher and husband, Dan, of Springtown; son, Ronny Howell and wife, Pam, of Springtown; sister, Doris Dunlap and husband, Marvin, of Springtown; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and numerous friends and acquaintances.
