Aledo Bearcats named 'Army Strong Team of the Week' after huge win over Lake Travis

September 13, 2010 by Tony Eierdam

Fort Worth, Texas – September 13, 2010 – Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is proud to announce that the Aledo High School Bearcats football team has been named the Army Strong Team of the Week for Division 4A.

The Bearcats were chosen for this honor because of their teamwork, dedication, discipline, personal courage and integrity, values shared by U.S. Army Soldiers.

“No. 2 Aledo did something Friday that no other team had been able to do since 2007: Beat No. 1 Lake Travis. Aledo ended Lake Travis’ 48-game winning streak with a hard-fought 14-10 victory at Lake Travis ISD Stadium in Lakeway, TX,” said Adam Hochfelder, general manager of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. “Aledo RB Jonathan Gray scored the winning TD on a fourth-down play with six minutes left. He finished the game with 145 yards on 31 carries.”

The award will be presented to the team at a time to be determined later this week by a representative of the U.S. Army.

"The U.S. Army is recognizing the student-athletes at Aledo High School for demonstrating qualities similar to those exhibited by its Soldiers. Student-athletes and Soldiers share similar values, but more importantly they must be mentally, emotionally and physically strong," said CPT Adam Drybread. "We expect to see some of these young men competing at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the college level, or maybe even professionally in the future."
