James Brantley NorrisJames Brantley Norris

James was born on July 19, 1936 to Henry and Alice Norris in Aledo, Texas.

He was one of eleven children including three girls and eight boys. He married Virginia Mae Parker on August 30, 1955 in Annetta, Texas. They had three sons, Carl, Bill and Mike. Growing up in Annetta, his family was poor and sometimes all they had to eat was what he could shoot with a 22 rifle. He was always a crack shot with a rifle, including leading his squad in shooting scores while in the Air Force. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association. He spent four years in Las Vegas, Nevada, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, where he worked on fighter planes, including the Thunderbirds (the Air Force’s precision flying team). He also spent many years running offset printing presses and doing all phases of graphic arts work. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years while his boys were in Scouting. He also did construction framing, electrical, plumbing and sheetrock work for several years, which gave him the skills needed to completely build their home in Arkansas from start to finish.

James and Virginia had fifty-six happy years of marriage which resulted in six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Over the years the couple lived in Texas, Nevada, Illinois, California, Colorado and in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, where Virginia still resides.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, woodworking, metalworking, gardening and stained glass. He was compassionate and would go out of his way to help others, refusing payment. He loved his wife, his children, his extended church family and especially he loved life. James will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is preceeded in death by his parents Henry of Turnersville, Texas and Alice Norris of Aledo, Texas, two brothers Charles and Eldon of Aledo and sister JoAnn of Mt. Ida, Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Virginia Mae Norris, three sons, Carl Norris and wife Vonda, Billy Norris and girlfriend Shelley, Mike Norris and wife Toni, all of Weatherford. Three grandsons including Anthony Norris, Travis Norris and Christopher Norris. Three granddaughters including Jessica, Julie and Brittany. Also seven great-grandchildren, two sisters and five brothers.
