Tony Eierdam/The Community News: Aledo senior Erin McGuire crosses home plate after hitting an inside-the-park home run Saturday afternoon during the Ladycats' 3-1 loss to Little Elm in game two of their best-of-three bi-district playoff series. Little Elm clinched the series with the win.
Little Elm senior Nicole Story's two-RBI double in the sixth inning proved to be the winning hit and lifted the Lobos to a 3-1 victory over the Aledo Ladycats Saturday afternoon in game two of the best-of-three bi-district playoff series at Ladycat Field.
The win, coupled with the Lobos' 3-0 win over Aledo on Friday night, gives Little Elm the series as the Lobos will advance to the area round.
The Ladycats trailed 3-0 as the game entered the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior right fielder Erin McGuire led off the inning and sent a line-drive off an outside fast ball from Little Elm pitcher Brittany Talley down the right field line that landed just inside the line and rolled to the fence.
McGuire circled the bases and scored standing up to give the Ladycats new life and cut the Lobos' lead to 3-1.
Two batters later, senior center fielder Aubri Jordan reached on an infield single, but Talley retired the next two Ladycat batters to end the inning.
The Ladycats got a runner on base with two outs in the seventh when Lauren Durham's bloop to left field was mishandled as the junior hustled safely to first.
But Talley fired her eighth strikeout to end the game as her team advances to the next round.
