Andra Franks/Special to The Community News: Brittany Morgan (Lady Marian), Hank Baldree (Friar Tuck) and Alex Enslow (Robin Hood) prepare for “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” beginning June 3 at Theatre Off the Square in Weatherford.
New twists to an old tale
Take an old, old, oft-told tale and stir in new twists and talent. Add youthful energy, punch it up with jabs at popular culture and manners, and you have “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood,” opening Friday, June 3 and running through June 19 at Theatre Off The Square in Weatherford.
It’s hard to be humble when you're a handsome swashbuckling superhero. But our gallant guy-in-green-tights tries his best as he swaggers through this frantically funny, Monty Python-esque retelling of the classic tale. This time around, our legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy (and feed his ego), must rescue the lovely Lady Marian from that scheming Sheriff and pernicious Prince, aided by a band of Merry Men whose collective IQ barely breaks into double digits. It’s an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won't soon forget!
This is G. Mike West's third production to direct at TOTS, and the first directing gig there for Erin Yount. The two first collaborated on TOTS' 2008 production of Phantom of the Opera, where Erin played the heroine Christine, and Mike directed.
The cast range in age from teens to mid twenties, and includes newcomers like Alex Enslow (Robin Hood) and veterans like Crystal Rincon (Lady in Waiting), who won TOTS' 2010 Best Actress Award for her Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Other cast members are: Brittany Morgan (Lady Marian), Steven Enslow (Sheriff), Ian Barnett (Prince John), Zach Crenshaw, Hank Baldree, Jordan Wood, Oscar de la Garza, Luke Bauer, Jessica Braswell, Elizabeth Ramsey, & Michaela Campbell (Merry Men & Women), and Kathryn Enslow, Shelbee Milner, Kaleigh Parker and Sabrina Piani (Ladies).
