Softball - Ladycats win 4-0
The Aledo Ladycats led Stephenville 1-0 after the top of the first inning at Stephenville in game 1 of the Area Championship round.
The score remained 1-0 in the middle of the third. The Ladycats left runners on third base in the second and third inings.
After four innings, Aledo's lead remained 1-0. By that point, pitcher Kacie Brann had struck out 11 batters and allowed only one hit.
Aledo scored another run in the top of the sixth for a 2-0 lead midway through the sixth. Going into the seventh, Aledo's lead remained 2-0.
In the top of the seventh, Aledo's Shelby Stockard hit a booming home run 20 feet over the center field fence on a full-count, two-out pitch to put Aledo ahead 4-0 going into the bottom of the final inning.
Aledo's lead held, as Stephenville got runners on second and third before Brann struck out Rachel DeLeon to end the game.
Brann recorded no runs on two hits and two walks. She had 17 strikeouts.
Aledo and Stephenville play the second game of their three game series Friday, May 6 at the Aledo Softball Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
Baseball - Bearcats win 9-3
Aledo and Trimble Tech were tied 0-0 after one inning.
Trimble Tech picked up a run on a walk, an error and two sacrifices to lead Aledo 1-0 after the bottom of the second. Zack Scott and Bryan Cox had hits for Aledo in the second.
In the top of the third, Rylan Riney scored on a Devin Watts hit. Watts was then driven in by Matt Bishop. Scott and Ross Bronson were driven in by Cox to put Aledo up 4-1. The score remained 4-1 after the bottom of the third behind the pitching of Mason Taylor.
In the top of the fourth, Riney and Watts scored on a Bishop base hit, Sean O'Donell scored on a sacrifice by Cody Smith, and Bishop scored on an error putting Aledo up 8-1 midway through the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Trimble Tech scored two runs, cutting Aledo's lead to 8-3 going into the sixth.
After a scoreless sixth, Aledo remained ahead 8-3.
In the top of the seventh, Scott scored on a Riney bunt to put Aledo up 9-3 going into the bottom of the final inning. Taylor was still on the mound for Aledo.
Game two of the three game series will be Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Aledo.
