Registration has been moved to the Aledo Community Center Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Aledo Football Association, in conjunction with Aledo Lions Club Youth Activities, will sponsor a Youth Football and Cheerleading League for the 2011 season which will play in the long established Fort Worth Southwest YMCA youth football league.
The SW YMCA league was established in the 1970s and includes teams comprised of students in a third/fourth grade division along with a fifth/sixth grade division. All games are played within seven miles of Aledo in high school level football stadiums with field turf surfaces (All Saints and Southwest Christian stadiums). Super Bowls and some playoff games are played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington!
The Aledo Football Association will be under the direction and guidance of Stephen Dunson (Aledo Lions Club Youth Basketball President/AAI Board Member) who will coach the third and fourth grade team, and Jerod Roland (Western Hills High School football coach), who will coach the fifth and sixth grade team. These coaches have a long history of coaching youth football in Aledo and providing opportunities for players to develop and succeed. Additional teams/coaches will be added as the registration process continues.
Players will receive football equipment from the league (helmets, shoulder pads, pants, jerseys, etc.) or may provide their own. Team jerseys will be either orange, white or black and have “ALEDO” on the front with the player’s name on the back in addition to numbers on the front and back.
Teams in this league will be limited to 17-19 players, and will guarantee a minimum of 10 offensive and/or defensive plays per game per player (special teams not included and will be additional plays).
Practices will start on Monday, Aug. 1. The first games of the season will be Saturday, Sept 17 and the season will conclude with the Super Bowls and some playoff games at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Registration fee is $200 ($175 for YMCA members) and there are no gate fees or season passes required, saving the average Aledo family $50 or more throughout the season. Cheerleading registration is initially set at $50 with possible additional costs as voted by the cheer teams.
