A header into the net almost three minutes into the first overtime period gave the Aledo Ladycats a 1-0 bi-district soccer win over Byron Nelson tonight (Thursday, March 24) at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo.
With 7:10 remaining in the first of two 10-minute overtime periods, junior midfielder Ally Swift, on an assist from Stephanie Neeley, headed the ball into the upper portion of the Byron Nelson goal to break a scoring drought on the part of both teams in an intense defensive battle.
"They [Nelson] have a really good defense, and that's one of our strengths," said head coach Derek Vierling after the game. "We were possessing the ball well and we were attacking, we just couldn't get the shot."
The win advances Aledo to the Area Championship round against Wichita Falls High School at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Collins Stadium in Denton.
