ESPN would call this game an “Instant Classic”. Aledo and Ft. Worth Dunbar are two of the best Class 4A teams in North Texas. Both teams slugged it out in a physical game played at Saginaw High School Tuesday night. Aledo was the last team standing in a dramatic 58-54 come-from-behind victory.
Things looked bleak for Aledo when Destiny Price hit a three for the Lady Wildcats to put Dunbar up by nine 52-43 with only 4:25 left to play in the game.
Senior Logan Mittie went to work in the fourth quarter scoring 11 points on one three-pointer and eight for eight free throw shooting in crunch time. Mittie led all scorers with 26. Mallory Powell added 13 and Alana Martin 10.
The Ladycats closed out the game on a 15-2 run. After the Price three, the run started with two made free throws from Mittie. Alana Martin cut three points off the lead with free throws. Mittie continued making free throws, and placed the dagger to the heart to Dunbar when Logan hit a three to tie the score at 52-52 with 2:31 to play in the game.
Aledo took the lead on a Hannah Loftin to Shelby Stockard pass with 1:33 left to play. Dunbar came back to tie the game 54-54, but the Ladycats kept getting the ball to Mittie with the game on the line. Logan scored the final four points to seal the victory on the line.
