Getting primed for postseason play, both the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats soccer teams won easily against Boswell in District 12-4A matches played today (Friday, March 5) at Bearcat Stadium.
The Bearcats began the evening's games with a 5-2 win over the Pioneers, while the Ladycats strolled to an easy 6-1 victory over the Lady Pioneers in the nightcap.
The district-champion Bearcats raised their 12-4A mark to 11-0.
The win raises the second-place Ladycats district record to 7-4. Although they have not lost a game on the field in district play, the Aledo girls were forced to forfeit earlier district matches against Saginaw, Boswell, Brewer and Springtown due to a clerical mistake regarding a student's "incomplete" grade, according to AHS head coach Derek Vierling.
Both teams will conclude district play against Saginaw on Tuesday, March 9, at Bearcat Stadium.
Aledo forward Thomas Davis led the Bearcats with three goals, with Yusef Marwan and Matt Nickell each adding a goal.
Nickell, Marwan, Chris Twedell and Brady Lain each recorded an assist in the game that saw the Bearcats take a 4-1 lead at the half.
The Ladycats jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the half, with Ally Swift scoring three of the five goals. Leading scorer Stephanie Neeley and Bailey Scott also scored in the opening half.
Michaela Place scored the lone goal in the second half.
Leslie Coats - who leads the team in assists - recorded a pair of helpers, with Neeley, Swift and Paige Marsh also earning assists.
